Facebook’s NG_Hub Launch in Lagos: What It Means for Nigeria’s Tech Ecosystem
In a bold move to deepen its investment in Africa, Facebook officially launched NG_Hub in Lagos on May 22, a cutting-edge innovation center aimed at nurturing Nigeria’s rapidly growing tech talent. Built in partnership with CcHub, this community space is designed to foster collaboration, learning, and idea exchange among Nigeria’s brightest tech minds.
With this launch, here’s what tech enthusiasts and startups can expect from Facebook and CcHub’s groundbreaking initiative:
🚀 The Facebook Accelerator Roadshow
Facebook and CcHub will embark on a 13-city tour across Nigeria, engaging university students at all academic levels (B.Sc, M.Sc, PhD) who are leveraging advanced technologies to drive innovation. The roadshow will spotlight locally developed tech solutions, feature interactive sessions on industry trends, and provide feedback on student-built prototypes—all in a dynamic setting filled with games, food, and networking opportunities.
🔥 The Fb Start Accelerator Programme
Following the NG_Hub launch, CcHub introduced a six-month accelerator program to support startups and student teams working on breakthrough solutions in AI, IoT, virtual reality, augmented reality, and data science. Selected participants will receive mentorship and equity funding of up to $20,000, giving them the financial and strategic backing needed to scale their innovations. Applications opened on May 22 and closed on June 29, 2018.
🌍 Expanding Beyond Lagos: Partnerships with Regional Tech Hubs
Recognizing the need to support talent beyond Lagos, Facebook is collaborating with existing tech hubs in key Nigerian cities, including:
✅ Ventures Platform, Abuja
✅ CoLab, Kaduna
✅ nHub, Jos
✅ Roar Nigeria, Enugu
These hubs will serve as regional training centers, providing access to skill development programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities for young innovators and entrepreneurs.
According to Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg’s vision for Nigeria is to "listen, learn, and take ideas back to California" on how Facebook can further support tech-driven entrepreneurship across Africa.
With NG_Hub’s launch, Nigeria’s startup ecosystem is poised for a major transformation—offering tech innovators the resources, funding, and global exposure needed to drive digital disruption across industries.
Exciting times ahead!🚀
